Compiz-Fusion is much better than compiz/beryl, And it is a pain it get set up but once you do its so sweet.

Make sure you have glx rendering enabled 100% and make sure you disable dri and one other which i cant think of right now.

Then open a console and run the follow command as the user thats running the current X session:

compiz-start & sleep 3; emerald --replace

That will start compiz in the background and 3 secconds later will start emerald and tell it to replace the current window decoration manager, After that to change settings type:

ccsm
(CompizConfig Settings Manager)

This will start the settings manager and allow you to change the plugin settings.

you MUST have Direct GLX rendering or compiz will not function, If you are unsure if you have it type the following in a console:

glxinfo | grep direct

If you see the following:

direct rendering: Yes

then you should be all set. If not then consult your distributions instructions on how to enable GLX for your video card/xorg installation

i meant the rain plugin xD i had compiz-fusion running on gentoo long before ubuntu supported it im just running on an intel card so i set the textures down and the rain works but its so slow its not worth using. everything else works perfect though
